Following on from one of the most successful seasons on road and track, Dymag has been going full throttle to put its record breaking wheels through their paces for 2017 with the assistance of two of the world’s best pilots.
Dymag’s expert team, including Chief Executive Chris Shelley, European Sales Manager Jon Hoy and Chief Engineer Mike Wilson, were joined by Moto GP and BSB star Jeremy McWilliams and Isle of Man TT road racer Dan Cooper for an exclusive track test at Dymag’s local Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire.
The test session saw Dan Cooper’s BMW 1000RR superbike undergo multiple laps of the Castle Combe circuit – first on standard BMW wheels followed by Dymag’s UP7Xs and finally the Dymag CA5 Carbon Composite wheels.
Both Jeremy McWilliams and Dan Cooper put the BMW 1000RR through rigorous and committed test laps on all three different sets of wheels, resulting in highly informative data telemetrics that Dymag will utilise to keep their competitive edge on road and track in 2017.
The test session was ably supported on the day by the Dunlop Motosport team, which was on hand to ensure all the tyre changes, pressure checks and temperature regulation were carried out in the most professional way possible.
Pat Walsh and his Dunlop Motorsport team pulled out all the stops during the day to ensure the test went smoothly, with the specially prepared race compounds available for the BMW1000RR giving Dan Cooper an ideal opportunity to test his bike –which he ran as a privateer entry - for the Macau Grand Prix.
The work put in at Castle Combe certainly reaped its rewards with Dan going on to secure a fantastic 10th place in the Macau Grand Prix on the BMW1000RR racing on Dymag UP7X wheels.
It rounded off a successful season for Dan Cooper, having won the Supertwins Class at the Ulster Grand Prix on August – reputed to be the world’s fastest road race - on Dymag’s UP7X wheels .
In June the UP7Xs proved the “fastest wheels on the Mountain Course” as Michael Dunlop secured a record breaking ‘big bike double’ with victories in the Isle of Man Superbike and Senior TT races.
In the blue riband Isle of Man Senior TT race, Dunlop riding the Hawk Racing BMW superbike on Dymag’s UP7X wheels, achieved the first sub-17 minute lap with a record average speed of 133.962mph, making Dymag’s wheels the quickest to ever lap the famous Mountain Course.
UP7Xs also proved the ‘choice of champions’ for Irish Superbike Champion Robert English and Richard Cooper who secured his first British Super Bike (BSB) victory at Oulton Park riding the Buildbase BMW on UP7X wheels.
Chris Shelley, Chief Executive at Dymag Performance Wheels, said: “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to put our UP7X and CA5 wheels through back to back testing with two of the world’s best track and road riders in Jeremy McWilliams and Dan Cooper.
“Along with Dan and Jeremy, we also had great back-up and support from Pat Walsh and the Dunlop Motorsport team and from our own Dymag team, who all endeavoured to ensure that we had a successful and informative testing session.
“The data and knowledge we took from the testing session will be utilised to help us ensure that Dymag continue to deliver the best performance on both road and track and put us in a strong position to repeat the success we enjoyed in 2016 going forward into the 2017 season.”
Alongside world class racers, top tyre support teams and Dymag’s team of experts, the session was also attended by students from the National Composites Centre (NCC), who had the opportunity to experience at first hand the excitement and educative experience of a live back to back testing session.
