Spirit Motorcycles new Spirit GP Sport race bike, fitted with Dymag’s CA5 carbon wheels, is taking the British Supersport series by storm, with the team’s top pilot and former Supersport champion Alistair Seeley claiming three podium finishes in the first two rounds of the championship.
Invited to take part in the British Supersport Series as a non-point scoring development bike, the Spirit Team’s claims of a machine that would revolutionise 600 – class middleweight racing are being backed up on the track.
In a flying start to 2017 for Dymag wheels on the track, the first round of the Supersport series at Donington Park saw Alistair Seeley and the Spirit GP qualify on pole, get involved in an epic battle for the lead and finally take the runners-up step on the podium.
It was a headline grabbing debut for the Spirit GP which sent out a serious statement of intent from the Spirit team and showcased the lightweight racing capabilities of Dymag’s CA5 wheels.
The Spirit has 15 BHP less than the rest of the Supersport field, so weight reduction is crucial. Dymag CA5 wheels are the lightest wheels in their class, not only reducing unsprung weight, but reducing moment of inertia and gyroscopic effects through corners referred by racers as “flickability”.
Those first round exploits were repeated again at Brands Hatch on Easter weekend, as Alistair Seeley and the Spirit GP took second and third placed podium finishes – providing further notice of the team’s arrival in the Supersport series.
The Spirit Motorcycle team’s choice of Dymag wheels for their pioneering new machine was borne out of a ‘Best of British’ engineering strategy that sought to demonstrate the best that UK companies had to offer.

With Dymag at the forefront of carbon wheel development and production, a carbon future for race bikes could spell even further dominance for Dymag on the road and the track.
In 2016 Dymag enjoyed a landmark year on the road and track, with podium topping performances from riders on its wheels, across many of the major bike racing events.
Major highlights included Dymag having the “fastest wheels on the Mountain Course” as Michael Dunlop recorded the first sub-17 minute lap, with a record average speed of 133.962mph, on the way to a record breaking ‘big bike double’ of victories in the Isle of Man Superbike and Senior TT races.
Michael Dunlop repeated the feat in August with another record breaking run in the Classic TT event, while Robert English, riding the IFS Logistics Yamaha Superbike on Dymag UP7X wheels, won the Irish Superbike Championship and Richard Cooper securing his first BSB race victory, added track success to Dymag’s road race achievements.
